New Homes V Second Hand Homes
It would appear that Second Hand Homes are fetching slightly better prices than New Homes according to the ESRI HPI figures released in October 2006. The average price paid for a New Home in Ireland in August 2006 was €300,479 while the average price paid for a Second Hand Home in the same period was €307,763.
When the figures are compared to those recorded in December 2005 - of €276,215 and €283,708 respectively - this indicates a growth in price of 8.5% for Second Hand Homes and 8.8% for New Homes over the period. So although the average Second Hand House is commanding a higher price, the New Homes market is showing slightly higher growth according to current statistics.
